"Speed Networking" is a Great Way to Make Contacts that can Later be Developed into Relationships

The idea is to sit at a table with 4 people, everyone take 30 seconds or less to introduce themselves, pass cards and then move to the next table where the routine is repeated.

Business relationships are built on trust and although these venues are certainly not going to provide trust building, they do provide contacts which may later develop into mutually beneficial relationships.

You can meet a lot of people in a short time, find out what they do and decide if there are any pepople with whom you want to meet later.
